Curt Hitch and Thule Rack Installed Today

Productive day. Was able to install the Curt 11000 on our 2013 Golf TDI today.

Curt 11000 Hitch Installed on our Golf TDI

As much as I didn’t believe it would fit, the Curt 11000 was successfully installed today.

Time for a long road trip to the Central Coast for a long bike ride?

I was looking at the same set up for my 2013 Golf TDI. I am concerned that when backing up hill I might scrape the hitch, it looks like it sits really low. Have you had a problem with it?

      Hi Megan.
With the hitch itself no, but when you attach the bike rack and it is extended, the added length makes it a bit low.
You kind of have to adjust the way you drive over bumps.

Still for us it is a great option and I didn’t want to have to load bikes on or off the roof.
I understand there may be an adapter you can add to the hitch to angle the bike rack up a bit.

Going to look into it and will post my findings here.

Thanks, this is helpful and it sounds like it will work fine. A second question: did you notice a reduction in your gas mileage when you put the rack and bikes on?

    • admin says:

      No difference.
We usually only drive the bikes 15 miles each way though.
Doing a Mammoth Mountain Mtn Bike trip in August so that will be the real test.

Thanks for posting the pictures and answering my questions. You’ll likely see a decrease in your fuel economy due to the higher elevation as well. Might be hard to parse out the effects of each. Lots of great riding in Mammoth, have fun!

Yeah we have gone up the last three years.
We like the Mtn Bike Park. Intermediate runs anyway 😉
